Went outside yesterday and noticed that our phone line (from a pole) was literally hanging by a thread! Presumably birds have got at it (and my money is on foxes stealing the fallen cover. BT coming out to fix on Monday, and meanwhile they’ve sent a minihub (mobile router) in case our line fails completely!

    • Impressive service from BT. Hope they can fix it on Monday.

      • So far the line has held up fine! Word of advice. If reporting faults to BT use their on-line/text system rather than 151 (if possible). The 151 operator gave me wrong advice to contact Openreach (off-shore call centre). The web/text route ran me through automated tests and then got me a lovely Geordie operator who got everything sorted in no time at all. I always relax when call handlers are from Newcastle!

        • Paul I trust your BT service is better than my Mum has experience. Six weeks ago they install a new line for a phone extension. Since then she hasn’t been able to call out, sometimes you can get through if you call her and sometimes the phone just drops out. BT finally sent someone round, they took one look and said sorry they couldn’t fix it. Hopefully the technician who is supposed to turn up tomorrow does better.

          • Sorry to hear that. Hopefully they’ll get it fixed for your Mum soon. The possible problem is that engineers generally either work inside the house (BT) or outside (Openreach) and if they can’t diagnose where the problem is they get stuck.

            • Glad you’re having a positive experience of BT. Discovered yesterday that 89 year old Ma- in-law had been paying them over £70 a month for a pretty ordinary broadband and phone service for donkey’s years. Just signed her up with someone else for under £35 a month for fast broadband including all calls at any time of the day including mobiles.
