Picking up on Shaun’s blog I tried out Dalle – the AI image system. The first few attempts were truly awful (photo realistic seems to create absolute horrors!) but I then simply asked for ‘fresh and fruity digital art with a fox’ and it came up with several images including this one. A bit cutesy but really not terrible and far beyond my own capability.

It is worrying how this will undermine creatives. There’s a vast array of paying work that could disappear to an AI alternative. not least because it is so quick. Everything from greetings cards and jigsaws, to book jackets and so on. The interesting bit will be when genuine creative artists start to use it to create original work.

I like this. Artists will adapt, they always have, and they may even embrace this – imagine if they could copyright a style even if it was done through AI? What is of more concern is the effect all of this will have on office jobs. Not the art bit, the automation through AI. That is going to be a big challenge. We all need to prepare really and understand it the best we can.

That’s quite nice. I fear for human artists – in this era of self-entitlement, why pay for something you can create to order
