AJ, can you do (or point to an existing article on) “using the transform panel in Lightroom/Adobe Camera Raw to crop within the aspect ratio of the image, while at the same time retaining resolution”.
Also could you crop using the transform panel but then maybe tweak for a non-aspect ratio?-
VC, this video talks about using Transform and may help

Evening all, what an interesting FM that was. I’m delighted to be placed (thanks AJ) amongst so many cracking shots. Re straightening mine, I didn’t as the Roan was running downhill, but next time I’ll know to either exaggerate it more or straighten it. Always great learning points and it good to be able to go back and review the recordings at a later stage.

I’ll be joining from Seville where it is also raining! Outrageous. Plenty of oranges on the trees but I have already made the marmalade before coming here.

Going to be honest – a disappointing start to the FM year in terms of participation so far, but well done for those who have got an entry in the gallery. There is still time. But not much…

Not long left to get your Sense of Speed entries in! The gallery is a little light which will make judging easier but I like to be challenged. Come on FBZ-ers!

To crop or not to crop, that is the question

interesting points, I guess you have a slight advantage when making a decision on in camera composing as you often have a purpose for the image ie an article. I agree that making composition decisions with wildlife can be a challenge especially when the subject keeps moving!
