We are delighted to be returning to Svalbard again in April 2025 for another expedition to the frozen North. Once again this will take place aboard the R/V Kinfish, one of the best regarded and much sought after Arctic vessels that’s perfect for photographers and those with an adventurous spirit, wanting to explore the frozen world at the top of our planet in comfort. With just 6-passenger cabins you’ll be able to experience the true isolation of the region with just a few likeminded explorers.
April is still considered winter in Svalbard, but we feel this period is the best time for photographers. In Mid-summer, the high sun can lead to harsh shadows, and most of the landscape is devoid of ice. We will be visiting during a period of beautiful soft light. Travelling early, Svalbard is still encased in ice; later in the season bears are often sighted on rock, but we are seeking encounters on snow and ice. While this makes sightings more challenging, it does offer better photographic opportunities. We hope to see walrus on ice floes, and Arctic fox in their white winter finery, while the landscape itself is white and frozen, as you expect the Arctic to be.
With a dedicated photographic leader, we will be making the most of light and positioning the group accordingly, will ensure everyone has the time and space to take their shots, the opportunity to learn, and the chance to have personal workflow and editing sessions. We’ll also have talks on polar exploration, the polar environment and the wildlife that calls it home. Our cosy ship offers excellent quality dining with paired wines at dinner, comfortable modern cabins and plenty of space to take in the Arctic landscape.
